Barbara Thomas, Lady Judge, CBE (née Barbara Suzanne Singer; born 28 December 1946〔(Lady Judge, CBE ), Debrett's.〕 in New York City), known before as Barbara Singer Thomas, is an American-British lawyer and businesswoman who lives in London and has dual citizenship. Barbara Suzanne Singer was born on 28 December 1946 in Manhattan, New York City.〔
Singer's father owned a small business. Her mother Marcia Singer was associate dean of students at New York Institute of Technology until 2011 when she was 87 years old.〔〔〔(Student Affairs Staff ), New York Institute of Technology.〕 Born in Manhattan, Singer grew up in Saddle Rock, New York.
In 1966 she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Pennsylvania,〔(49th Annual Report of th Securities and Exchange Committee ) (1983), p. xvi.〕 where she met her first husband Theodore J. In 1973, she joined ''Kaye, Scholer, Fierman, Hays, and Handler'', where she specialised in corporate law and financial transactions and became a partner in 1978.〔 At that time she married Allen L.
